Theresa Grentz, of West Chester, PA, to Speak at “Chalk Talk 2010” Free Coaches Clinic
On Thursday, June 17, Theresa Grentz, vice president for University Advancement at Immaculata University and resident of West Chester, PA, will be a featured speaker at the Monmouth University Chalk Talk 2010, a free coaches´ clinic. The clinic runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Competitive Edge Sports in King of Prussia, PA. Although the cost to participate is free, donations will be accepted for the benefit of Coaches Versus Cancer. Also speaking at Chalk Talk 2010 is Herb Magee, head basketball coach at Philadelphia University and Stephanie Gaitley, head basketball coach at Monmouth University.
While coaching women´s basketball, Theresa accomplished many great achievements. She won the 2007 WBCA´s Carol Eckman Award, which exemplifies spirit, integrity and character through sportsmanship, honesty, ethical behavior, courage and commitment to the student-athlete. On June 9, 2001, she was inducted into the Women´s Basketball Hall of Fame.
Previously, Theresa became the sixth head women´s basketball coach of the University of Illinois in1995. She was named head coach of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Women´s Basketball Team, and on August 8, 1992 the U.S. team won the Bronze Medal Game against Cuba. When named head coach at Rutgers University in 1976, she became the first full-time women´s basketball coach in the nation. Theresa coached at Rutgers University for 19 years, where she led them to their first Elite Eight in the AIAW national tournament in March 1980 and to their first NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the East Regional Final in March 1986.
