Theology Department Welcomes Stephen D. Miles, Ph.D.

Stephen D. Miles, Ph.D., has joined the Theology Department at Immaculata University as an associate professor in moral theology. He is teaching introductory courses in theology and Christian ethics, a course in Catholic social teaching, and other theology courses.
Before coming to Immaculata, Miles was an assistant professor of moral theology at St. Mary´s Seminary and University in Baltimore, Md. He taught courses on Catholic theology and social ethics, philosophical ethics, theological anthropology, the ethics of Pope John Paul II, and other subjects. He was an instructor in the Diaconate Formation Program in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and he served as an assistant professor at Loyola College in Maryland´s Department of Theology.
Miles has a doctoral degree in theological ethics from Boston College, through a joint program with Weston Jesuit School of Theology, and his dissertation is titled "Extending Reconciliation: The Contributions of Immanuel Kant and St. Thomas Aquinas." He holds a master´s degree in theological studies from Duke University Divinity School, and he wrote his master´s thesis about St. Paul´s vision of the unity of the Corinthian church.
Miles has published articles and given academic and professional presentations on teaching Catholic social tradition in Catholic universities and on service learning in business school curriculum. At a 2001 international conference on work and social and economic transformations in Vatican City, he gave a presentation titled "In Spite of All this Toil: Recovering Work in an Age of Profane Sacrifices." He has also given many presentations to churches and Catholic organizations on topics such as global peace and justice, reconciliation, care for the elderly, and theologies of salvation.
"I´m thrilled to be back in the classroom teaching undergraduates, both traditional and non-traditional," commented Miles. "And I´m excited to be part of a university community that sees the integral development of the person as the ultimate goal of an education."
Immaculata University is a residential, Catholic, coeducational institution of higher education, located on the Main Line between Malvern and Exton, 20 miles west of Philadelphia.
