The President’s Council of Immaculata University Welcomes Dr. Arthur Caplan as Guest Speaker

On Wednesday, October 3, at 4:30 p.m., Immaculata University welcomes renowned bioethicist, Dr. Arthur Caplan. His lecture, Transplants: Who Should Give Organs: Who Should Get Them & Why, takes place in the Great Hall on the University´s campus.
A five-member panel consisting of professionals from the health care, law, and theology fields will accompany Dr. Caplan´s presentation. The panel members are: Dr. Maria Alonso, a pediatrician neurosurgeon; Debra Dunne, a health care attorney and chair of Stradley, Ronon, Stevens & Young´s Life Sciences; and Father Stephen Brett, a moral theologian. Dr. Eric E. Anderson, chair of Immaculata University´s Health Science and Services Department will serve as moderator.
As the current Emmanuel and Robert Hart professor of Bioethics, chair of the Department of Medical Ethics, and the director of the Center of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Caplan writes extensively and is the author of twenty-five books and over 500 papers. His most recent book, Smart Mice Not So Smart People, was published in 2006. In addition, he writes a regular column on bioethics for and is a frequent commentator for various media outlets. He also has the distinction for serving as the first president of the American Association of Bioethics. With six honorary degrees from colleges and universities, Dr. Caplan was named "Person to Watch in 2001" by USA Today and was also named "Top Fifty Most Influential People in American Health Care" by Modern Health Care Magazine.
