SunGard Higher Education Names Immaculata University Winner of the 2009 SunGard Higher Education Award for Institutional Performance

PHILADELPHIA (SunGard Summit 2009 Conference) March 23, 2009 – SunGard Higher Education ( announced Immaculata University as the 2009 winner of the SunGard Higher Education Award for Institutional Performance for its successful migration to and implementation of a new learning management system (LMS). The announcement was made during the opening session of the annual SunGard Summit user conference. In addition to receiving the award, Immaculata received $10,000 for student scholarships.

Implementation of the new LMS, which was conducted over a 14-month period beginning in summer 2007, has enabled the institution to increase its revenue from on-line courses as well as improve institutional performance, academic offerings, and efficiency. Since 1998, Immaculata has partnered with SunGard Higher Education for technology management support. In addition to its new LMS, the institution utilizes the Banner Unified Digital Campus, all of which are hosted on virtualized servers located in the company´s Internet Data Center.

During the first year of the LMS implementation project, the university said it was able to maintain its projected 30% increase in enrollment in totally online classes generating more than $3.4 million in revenue. An additional 260 Web-enhanced courses were supported, involving over 4,680 students. These endeavors confirm Immaculata´s commitment to integrate technology as a support of the educational mission of the institution. With support from SunGard Higher Education, the institution also was able to train more than 350 full-time and part-time faculty and staff in using the new LMS, secured $40k in grants and external funding, and renegotiated vendor relations, providing the institution anticipated savings exceeding $1.5 million over the next six years.

Sister Carrolll Isselmann, IHM, vice president for academic affairs at Immaculata stated that "through disciplined management, thoughtful research, and hard work, SunGard and Immaculata University have been able to implement a state-of-the-art learning management platform, gain operational efficiency, eliminate redundancy, and do away with 95 percent of all manual procedures associated with learning management system operation."

The SunGard Higher Education Award for Institutional Performance recognizes one institution of higher education for measurable institutional performance improvements supported through SunGard Higher Education technologies and/or services. Nominated institutions that earned finalist recognition this year included:
• Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland), for improving gift and pledge attainment through a fundraiser performance metric system
• Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach, Fla.), for better serving students with an expanded IT Support Center
• Florida Keys Community College (Key West, Fla.), for improve strategic decision-making by streamlining enrollment management
• George Mason University (Fairfax, Va.), for improving admissions processes with a workflow implementation
• Colleges of Higher Technology (United Arab Emirates), for improving student support through counselor services
