Immaculata University is offering a Summer Writing Institute for all high school students who want to prepare for college-level writing while engaging in a community of enthusiastic writers. This two-week program is available from August 8, through August 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday) on the campus of Immaculata, near Malvern, PA. Immaculata faculty will be instructing the writers.
Participants choose a curriculum track: College Writing or Creative Writing.
•    College/Academic Writing Track: Participants will review, discuss and practice academic writing including critical reading skills and investigative inquiry techniques and will participate in professional writing workshops. Students will also have an opportunity to practice writing a college application essay.
•    Creative Writing Track: Participants will have an opportunity to express their creativity through poetry and fiction and will also participate in role-playing and other interactive experiences. Students will also write in group workshops.
On Friday, August 18, the last day of the Writing Institute, students in both tracks will share their work with parents and guests in attendance. In addition to the presentation, each writer will have the opportunity to choose one work that will be published; each student will receive a copy of the collected works.
“Located on the scenic Immaculata University campus, the IU Summer Writing Institute is the perfect setting to engage with peers and to strengthen your writing skills within a collaborative, encouraging environment,” commented Lauren McCann, director of Immaculata’s Writing Center and coordinator of the Writing Institute.
Class size is limited so that faculty can focus individualized attention on each student. Cost for the Summer Writing Institute is $500 (includes $25 non-refundable deposit due by June 15). For more information or to register, please contact Immaculata’s Writing Center at 484-323-3511 or email writinginstitute@immaculata.edu . You can also visit the website for details.
