M.E. Jones, Ph.D., Receives the Lindback Teaching Award from Immaculata University
Mary Elizabeth (M.E.) Jones, Ph.D., of Havertown, PA, was presented with the 2009-2010 Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award during Immaculata University´s recent commencement ceremony. This award is given annually to a faculty member who possesses excellence in teaching. Dr. Jones is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics – Computer Science – Physics at Immaculata University where she has been teaching since 2002.
After graduating from Immaculata College, Dr. Jones received her Master of Arts in Mathematics from Villanova University and then earned her Ph.D., in Information Science from Drexel University.
With experience in both academia and industry, Dr. Jones has participated in numerous conferences and contributed to various publications. She was recently awarded a two-year National Science Foundation grant that supports a pilot program for teaching introductory programming by aligning and integrating creative skills with analytical skills. She is also part of many professional societies such as the Association for Computing Machinery, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
As an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics – Computer Science -Physics, Dr. Jones is responsible for teaching courses in mathematics, computer science, and information technology, as well as serving as an academic advisor for undergraduate students. Furthermore, she was the ACCELÂ® coordinator for the Information Technology and Business program from 2002 to 2004. Additionally, she continues to work hard to increase the knowledge of mathematics and science in students.
Throughout her career, Dr. Jones has gained experience at various corporations including AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, LP and GE Aerospace in management, technology, training, marketing and sales. Some of her industry experiences involved responsibility for mentoring and managing entry-level software consultants as well as management of a help-desk to support computer operations. She coordinated and directed the creation of demonstration applications supporting the technical approach detailed in proposals. Furthermore, she has developed and taught project management courses.

M.E. Jones grew up in West Chester and graduated from Immaculata University in 1982. She currently lives in Havertown, PA.
Immaculata University, a Catholic, coeducational institution, is located 20 miles west of Philadelphia, south of the intersection of routes 30 and 352, between Paoli and Exton.
