Margaret M. Donohue ’73 Receives Amethsyst Award from Immaculata’s Alumni Association

The Alumni Association of Immaculata University honored Margaret Donohue (Margie), Class of 1973 and resident of Drexel Hill, PA, with its Amethyst Award at a recent Homecoming event. The Amethyst Award is given annually to a graduate the University in recognition of her/his outstanding contribution to or achievement in a Church, community or professional activity. Mrs. Donohue, the recipient of the Immaculata University Alumni Medal in 1990 for her service to the University, continues to serve many communities through her volunteer work.
Mrs. Donohue is an active member of St. Dorothy Parish, Drexel Hill, for the past 28 years. Mrs. Donohue and her husband Bill are the parents of four sons: Bill Jr., Dan, Kevin and Sean. While their sons attended Devon Prep, Mrs. Donohue and her husband served on the Parent´s Association Board. Mrs. Donohue also worked as cafeteria cashier and admissions recruiter.
Mrs. Donohue serves on various St. Dorothy parish and school organizations including the Pre-Cana marriage preparation program, the Oktoberfest Fall Bazaar fundraiser, the Aid for Friends Program, and the H.O.P.E (Help Our People in Emergency) program. In addition, she provides transportation for the elderly and shut-ins to doctor appointments and has been both a Rectory and School Volunteer for 20 years. Mrs. Donohue participated in the School Development Committee in the Parish´s efforts to address the financial challenges facing Catholic Schools by soliciting alumni parents to support the Annual Fund at St. Dorothy´s.
Mrs. Donohue´s community contributions are many, including serving as a member of the Pilgrim Gardens/Aronimink Civic Association for the past 25 years and serving on the board for 15 years. Also, Mrs. Donohue volunteers at the annual Camilla Hall fair, volunteers at the Pennsylvanians for Human Life, a pro-life organization, attends the annual Celebrate Life Banquet, and also supports the Senior Law Center.
Mrs. Donohue, a member of the Immaculata Board of Governors of the Alumni Association, has served and continues to serve as Amethyst Night Committee Chair and Auction Chair, and in many other roles including: Homecoming Committee, Student Outreach. Social Activity Chair, Alumni Telethon and Art Show volunteer. She has been a Delaware County Chapter member for over 24 years, hosting meetings, planning events, supporting activities, and receptions for incoming students.
Immaculata University, a Catholic coeducational institution, is located 20 miles west Philadelphia, south of the intersection of routes 30 and 352, between Paoli and Exton.
