JoAnne McAdams of West Chester and Principal of St. Patrick’s School Receives Alumni Medal from Immaculata University

The Alumni Association of Immaculata University announces that JoAnne McAdams ´84, ‘87M, ‘96EdD, is the recipient of the Alumni Medal for 2008. This award is presented in recognition of outstanding volunteer and support to Immaculata University. Dr. McAdams has shown an ongoing, active interest in and support of Immaculata and has tirelessly worked for the advancement of the University.
After raising her children, JoAnne, Bob and Jim, and in an effort to enhance her volunteer work at St. Agnes Elementary School, Dr. McAdams enrolled in a reading course at Immaculata. This was the beginning of her nineteen years of part-time study at the college. As a Continuing Education/night student, Dr. McAdams graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Psychology degree. She was especially happy to share her graduation with her daughter JoAnne who received a Bachelor of Music degree at the same ceremony. In 1987, Dr. McAdams earned her Master´s degree in Educational leadership at Immaculata University. After that time, she accepted the position of principal at St. Patrick´s School in Malvern where she has served for 21 years. Dr. McAdams culminated her studies at Immaculata by receiving her Doctorate in Education in 1996; she is the first person to earn all three degrees from Immaculata. She continues to demonstrate her devotion to her alma mater by mentoring student teachers from the University. During her years of study and since her graduation, Dr McAdams and her husband Frank have supported the University by actively serving on various committees. They have promoted and continue to subsidize the University´s building projects and they regularly work at the Art Show and serve as ushers at graduation.
Immaculata has benefited through the years from Dr. McAdams´ participation in various activities. She was a multi-termed member of the Board of Governors; she has served on the Alumni Fundraising Committee, co-chaired Amethyst Night, chaired several Homecoming committees and served on the Graduate Council Advisory Board. Currently she is the president of Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. McAdams and her husband are still involved with the Parents Guild of Immaculata University where previously Dr. McAdams served as president and vice president of this organization.
The McAdams are active members of their parish, St. Agnes in West Chester, where they both serve as Eucharistic ministers.
Immaculata University, a Catholic coeducational institution, is located 20 miles west Philadelphia, south of the intersection of routes 30 and 352, between Paoli and Exton.
