Immaculata Hosts Poetry Reading by Dr. Samuel Hazo

Dr. Samuel Hazo, first State Poet of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, will read from his works at Immaculata University on Monday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 127, Loyola Hall.
Dr. Hazo, McAnulty Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Duquesne University, is President and Director of the International Poetry Forum, currently housed at Carlow University, Pittsburgh. His professional experience has spanned teaching, writing, editing, lecturing and narrating programs for National Public Radio. His literary output in prose and poetry is extensive, the most recent publications include Just Once, which merited the Maurice English Poetry Prize in 2003, Jots Before Sleep (2004), and The Pittsburgh that Stays Within You (2004).
In addition to these works, Dr. Hazo has written several plays and his essays have appeared in a variety of scholarly and other journals. He has been honored by his alma mater the University of Pittsburgh as a distinguished alumnus as well as earning recognition from both civic and academic institutions for his writing and his contributions to education. Nine Pennsylvania colleges and universities have awarded him honorary degrees, and he has traveled widely to offer poetry readings and lectures.
