IHM Sister Joins Immaculata University as Director of Planned Giving and Stewardship
Sister Rita O´Leary, IHM, has joined the staff of Immaculata University as the Director of Planned Giving and Stewardship.
Sister´s background includes nearly 50 years of service in education, beginning from her time as a grade school teacher at Villa Maria Academy in Malvern. At Villa Maria, as well as SS Peter & Paul School in Decatur, Georgia, she taught several grades, and served as music teacher for grades one through eight. She continued her job as music teacher at St. Michael School in Annandale, Virginia, where she also took on the role of Vice Principal. From there, she moved on to positions at several high schools, with jobs ranging from Dean of Studies, and later Principal, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School in Coal Township to Coordinator of Alumni Relations and Director of Advancement at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg.
Sister Rita´s new position marks her return to Immaculata University, where she served as Instructor in Elementary Music Methods and Piano for 14 years. She was Assistant Dean of Students from 1972 to 1973, and then Dean of Students until 1985. She is also an alumna, having earned her Bachelor of Music from the University.
Sister´s other academic achievements include earning her Master of Music Education from West Chester State University and a Master of Arts in Education Administration from The Catholic University of America. She participates as a Board Member of the State Street Academy of Music, and is also involved with the Diocesan Liturgy Committee and Diocesan Committee for the Protection of Children, all located in Harrisburg. She recently joined the Diocesan Committee for the Admission and Scrutinies for the Lay Deacons as well.
Winner of the Professional Catholic Women´s Forum´s "Woman of Faith" Award, Sister Rita is also a published author. Her experience and skills will make her a valuable addition to the Immaculata University community.
Immaculata University is a Catholic, coeducational institution located 20 miles west of Philadelphia, between Paoli and Exton, south of the intersection of routes 30 and 352.
