Honeybrook, PA, Resident Mary Carole Barringer Receives 2009 Amethyst Award from Immaculata University

The Alumni Association of Immaculata University has honored Mary Carole Barringer ´82 with its prestigious Amethyst Award during Homecoming. The Amethyst Award is given annually to a graduate of the University in recognition of his/her outstanding contribution to or achievement in a church, community, or professional activity.
As a member of the United Methodist Church, Mary Carole serves as co-president of the women´s group and attends Bible study. She is also the chairperson of the Quilt, Prayer Shawl, and Pillows of Love committee at Hopewell United Methodist Church. The items produced by the committee are hand-sewn, knitted or woven and are given to hospitals and shelters for women and children. Mary Carole also supports Hopewell Church´s camps, Bible school, and nursery school.
With a dedication to maintain a strong relationship to Immaculata University, Mary Carole stays involved with her alma mater through various alumni-related activities. She serves on the board of governors, the alumni fund raising committee, the Art Show committee, and is the co-chair for the 2009 Homecoming committee and has previously served as co-chair of Amethyst Night.
Contributing to her community, Mary Carole serves dinner at Safe Harbor, a shelter in West Chester, PA. She also volunteers her time as education chairperson for the New Century Club, a women´s group which supports numerous charitable activities in the West Chester area. During her professional career, Mary Carole spent 35 years teaching at a Christ-centered pre-school and was also director. Currently, she is retired but serves as a substitute teacher at the pre-school.
Mary Carole lives in Honeybrook, PA, with her husband Richard. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
Immaculata University, a Catholic, coeducational institution, is located 20 miles west of Philadelphia, south of the intersection between Paoli and Exton.
