Ed Herr Selected as Recipient of Honorary Degree for 90th Commencement
Immaculata University is proud to announce that Ed Herr, president of Herr Foods, Inc., received an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, at the 90th Immaculata University Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 18, 2014. He also served as Commencement Speaker.
Dedicated from an early age, Ed Herr started working for his father, James, when he was eight years old dragging potato sacks. Working his way up and learning all aspects of the industry, Ed assumed greater responsibilities. As president of Herr Foods, he is now in charge of sales, marketing, manufacturing and the management of fleet, farms, and properties. Ed also oversees the company’s activities in the area of charitable giving and community and corporate relations.
With a deep commitment to the community, Ed Herr serves on the board of several local organizations including Oxford Mainstreet, Inc., Oxford Senior Center, and the Lighthouse Youth Center. He is also on the board of the Navigators Church Discipleship Ministry in Colorado, an international, interdenominational Christian ministry, and New York City Relief, a non-profit that provides food and resources to the needy. In 2009, Ed helped to found a local faith community called SILO (Serving, Inspiring, Loving Others). He stated in his official biography on the company’s web site that a deep religious commitment is fundamental to all of his business and civic pursuits and it influences all of his relationships and activities.
“I think that Mr. Herr, following in the footsteps of his father James Herr, exemplifies the qualities that we desire to develop, form in our IU students,” stated Sister Sheila Galligan, IHM, S.T.D., professor of Theology at Immaculata University.
