Barbara Shannon ’70 Recipient of Alumni Medal
Immaculata University will honor Barbara Shannon ’70 of Drexel Hill, PA, with the Alumni Medal at the 2014 Awards Gala held on Saturday, October 4, at 5:00 p.m. at RiverCrest Golf Club & Preserve in Phoenixville, PA.
The Alumni Medal is presented in recognition of outstanding volunteer service and support to Immaculata University. The recipient exemplifies the goals and ideals of Immaculata University in his/her particular life and through devoted service advances the mission of the Alumni Association of Immaculata University.
Exemplifying the spirit of Immaculata, Shannon began as a religion teacher and went on to work for more than 20 years as an independent distributor of natural nutrition, personal care, and household products. In 2002, Shannon rediscovered her calling as a teacher in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Contributing to the legacy of Catholic education, Shannon instructed students in both liberal arts and science.
A devoted member of the Delaware County Chapter of the Immaculata Alumni Association, Shannon assisted in the rejuvenation of this Chapter in the early 80s and has served in a variety of leadership roles. From 2011 on, her role and time commitment at Immaculata has increased. Shannon is the current past president of the Alumni Board of Governors and served a three-year term as a board member. She is an active leader at Saint Andrew’s Church in Drexel Hill, PA and participates in many cultural organizations throughout Philadelphia.
