Artist Michele Byrne Joins Distinguished List of Featured Artist for the 2009 Immaculata Art Show
Berks County, PA, artist Michele Byrne has been selected as the Featured Artist for the 2009 Immaculata University Art Show. Michele, a favorite artist of patrons to the Art Show, has exhibited in the Art Show since 2000.
The 26th Annual Immaculata University Art Show will be held from Saturday, May 9, through Sunday, May 17, in Alumnae Hall. The Gala Preview Reception takes place on Friday, May 8, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
As an artist who paints in oils and watercolor, Michele took her first painting class at eight years old and always knew she wanted to be an artist. Michele´s passion is painting people involved in conversation. She most often paints where she finds people gathering. Her favorite scenes are outdoor café´s. Michele often travels to find a busy café and then paints right on location. This is called painting in plein air. According to Michele, plein air painting allows her to capture a mood.
Michele´s home studio is located in Pennsylvania and she exhibits in galleries in New York, New Jersey, and Maryland. In addition, she competes in juried shows across the country. This brings her into contact with people in the art world all over the country. Such exposure has led to the publication of two books of her paintings entitled The Art of Conversation published in 2002 and The Art of Conversation: Manhattan published in 2006. A third book in the series The Art of Conversation: Paris is coming soon. Most of the juried shows invite the artist to paint on location and then enter the finished pieces in a selected exhibition where prizes are awarded. She has recently received the Award of Merit from the Bucks County Paint Out in 2008 and the Award of Excellence at the Wayne Plein Air Festival, also in 2008. Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards including the People´s Choice Award from the Paint Annapolis event and also earned First Place Award from the Rehoboth Beach Paint Out. In 2005, she was chosen as the poster artist for the Diabetes Research Institute in Miami for their annual Feast among the Grapes benefit.
Beginning her professional career as a graphic artist, Michele received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kutztown University. To enhance her craft, she continued her education by studying watercolor/acrylic with Tara Grimm at the Institute of Arts in Wyomissing and spent two years taking Figure and Portraiture classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She is a member of the Berks Art Alliance, the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, the Philadelphia Sketch Club, and the Rehoboth Art League.
"I am honored to be a part of the Immaculata University Art Show and to be the 2009 Featured Artist," commented Michele.
