Immaculata University’s Spirituality Under the Dome series announces its 10th annual “Spirituality Day” on Saturday, April 9, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with refreshments followed by the opening prayer and welcome at 9:15 a.m. in Alumnae Hall. The half-day event concludes at 12:00 p.m. The Rev. James Martin, S.J., a Jesuit priest, author and editor-at-large at America, the national Catholic magazine, will be the keynote speaker for the morning.
This is the third time Father Martin will be speaking at the Spirituality Under the Dome annual event. He is the author of several books including his most recent book in 2015, The Abbey: A Story of Discovery and New York Times bestseller Jesus: A Pilgrimage (HarperOne), which combines travel narrative, biblical study and spiritual reflections on the life of Christ. In 2011, he published Between Heaven and Mirth: Why Joy, Humor and Laughter are at the Heart of the Spiritual Life. In 2013 HarperOne published an e-book Together on Retreat: Meeting Jesus in Prayer, which uses the technology of the e-reader to lead readers on a guided retreat.   Other books are: A Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything, My Life with the Saints, A Jesuit Off-Broadway, and Becoming Who You Are.
Sister Mary Henrich, IHM, program director for Immaculata University’s Spirituality Under the Dome, commented that, “A secret of the spiritual life is slowing down. Take a morning for yourself during the glorious Easter season and come listen and be engaged with Father Martin’s address entitled “Meeting Jesus.” Father Martin’s talk will be followed by an extensive question and answer period.  Some of his books will be available for purchase.
The Spirituality Under the Dome series seeks to provide space for prayer, presenters and performers as a way of nourishing and supporting people’s expressed desire to live in meaningful relationship with God and neighbors. For further information, please visit the website at www.immaculata.edu/spirituality or contact Sister Mary Henrich, IHM at 484-323-3434. The registration fee is $20.00 and participants are asked to register by April 4.
